FURNITURE JOINERY & CRAFTSMANSHIP SKILLS FOR DESIGNERS

The Department of Design, 娱乐老虎机,森林舞会游戏 School of Architecture and Planning (MSAP), successfully conducted a two-day workshop titled “Furniture Joinery & Craftsmanship Skills for Interior Designers” on 27th and 28th February 2026 at the MM&C Lab. The workshop was coordinated by Ar. Palaniappan A.R., Ar. Shristi Shetty, and Ms. Shubhi Awasthi, and was attended by 63 students from Interior Design programs.
The workshop aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of traditional and modern joinery techniques, material-specific fixing methods, and furniture detailing. The sessions were led by Ms. Rajalakshmi Thangavelu, Principal Designer at The East Indian Company and Head of Interior Design at DOT School of Design.
Day 1 began with a comprehensive lecture introducing participants to various joinery systems and their practical applications in interior design. This was followed by hands-on exercises on Day 2, where students created joinery-based puzzles and developed 1:1 scale furniture prototypes, enabling them to explore precision, craftsmanship, and real-world construction techniques.
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), the workshop provided a valuable platform for experiential learning, enhancing both technical knowledge and practical skills in furniture design and detailing.
